Machine learning & fast simulation for metal additive manufacturing
Linking laser process parameters to the microstructure and properties of printed metal parts, with physics-based models fast enough for the factory floor.
Hi, I'm Théo, a Ph.D. student at the Solid Mechanics Laboratory (LMS) of École Polytechnique, supervised by Manas V. Upadhyay and Daniel Weisz-Patrault. My thesis aims at rapidly identifying the relationship between laser processing parameters, microstructure and mechanical properties in metal additive manufacturing, by combining in situ experiments in a laser-equipped electron microscope, fast physics-based simulation and machine learning.
I am an engineer from École Polytechnique, specialised in Mechanics and Materials at Mines Paris. During my studies I did engineering internships at ArianeGroup (dynamic characterisation of the Ariane 6 launcher), Withings (polymer durability for connected health devices) and Aerophile (CFD). They taught me that a model is only useful if it is validated, fast, and answers a question someone building parts actually has.
I am always happy to discuss exciting topics in laser processing and additive manufacturing, with researchers, engineers and companies. Get in touch.

I have had a 3D printer at home for more than ten years. I have upgraded it, broken it and repaired it many times, and printed parts for almost everything around me. Somewhere along the way, printing stopped being only a hobby: my Ph.D. is now on metal additive manufacturing.
I still design models for fun and share them on Cults3D.
